The obd 2 scaner or obd ii code reader is used for reading the obd trouble codes. Ther are three main types of obd code readers:
1. Hand-held obd scanners which are more expensive then the others but they can be very easy to use. This type of code readers are devided in two categories: professional scanners and read/reset scanner for consumers ;

3. Data loggers ; this type of obd scanner is still at the beginning of his implementation phase. It will be used to track vehicles through satellite using the GPS system and will provide valuable information about the car health, road traffic and in case of an accident will call the emergency departments.
